Before the Romans also held their celebrations on 17 to 23 December, in about holidays on the art of cooking played an important role, and on 25 December was the pagan festival of the exaltation of the Sun. Although it is believed that Jesus Christ was born more towards spring – and about five years earlier than our counting. But the early Christians chose the date to coincide with the pagan festivals of the Sun.
Since the end of the fourth century, Christianity began to celebrate the tradition of Christmas on December 25th. Pope Julius I fixed the date of December 25, next day many winter solstice festivals that are celebrated in antiquity. The date of birth of Jesus and Christmas

Christmas Tree

In the year 540, an error monk Dionysius “Meager” in the calculation of dates, led to the establishment of an erroneous date on the birth of Jesus set in the night from 24 to 25 December. The error could also be the year. It is believed that Jesus was born between four and six years before the beginning of the Christian era during the reign of Herod.
The theme of the dates is controversial. Although the church tried to check the actual time of the birth of Christ and all was discussed in the second century (with other issues such as the date of Easter, the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Christ), the Scriptures state that death of Christ was during the Jew celebration.
To this accuracy the complexity arising in the computation of the Jewish calendar, Greek, and Latin adds. There are reports of some Christians originally celebrated the birth of Christ in March or April.
But the end was agreed to celebrate Christ’s conception on March 25, the same as the feast of the Resurrection, and therefore the date when the angel appeared to Mary. However, according to the ancient Jews and early Christians, life begins at conception. If this is so and conceived Christ on March 25, nine months later, he was born, that is, December 25
